Lesy České republiky will prioritize natural regeneration on the historically largest area

After managing a bark beetle calamity, the Lesy České republiky continue to restore stands, this year fourteen thousand hectares. The planting of almost 56 million seedlings, of which 37 million were deciduous, began already at the beginning of March. On a record 30 percent of the renewed area this year, foresters will prioritize naturally grown seedlings.

The amount of voles in fields decreased in April, however, a risk of damage to stands remains

A population of voles in fields in the Czech Republic decreased to an average of 220 burrows per hectare in April from 661 burrows per hectare in March. The harmfulness threshold, i.e., the limit at which the vole population causes damage, exceeds this number by 4.4 times.

Czechs drink less beer. According to experts, the decline is caused by higher prices and lifestyle changes

The average annual consumption of beer per inhabitant in the Czech Republic fell to a historic low. There were 128 litres per each Czech last year, by eight more than the year before. Thirty percent of the total amount of beer was sold in restaurants and pubs. Fifteen years ago, it was more than half.

Výborný: Growers without insurance will have to cut compensation in half

Growers who did not have frost insurance will have their compensation cut in half. The Minister of Agriculture Marek Výborný (KDU-ČSL) said this today in the TV program Nova Za pět minut dvanáct.
